We visit the Graeco-Roman city of Jerash to marvel at its spectacular 2,000-year-old ruins and explore Ajloun Castle. Overnight: Amman  |  Breakfast

Day 3

Amman city tour & Karak Castle

Amman - Karak - Petra. This morning we take a guided tour of Amman, taking in highlights such as the National Archaeological Museum and the Citadel, which sits on the highest hill in Amman and was occupied from the Bronze Age. From Amman, we visit the magnificent Crusader Castle of Karak, a place of legend in the battles between the Crusaders and the Islamic armies of Saladin. We then continue our drive south to Petra.
Overnight: Petra  |  Breakfast

Day 4

UNESCO-listed rose city of Petra

One of the New Seven Wonders of the World, Petra is undoubtedly Jordan’s star attraction. We spend the whole day exploring this UNESCO-listed archaeological site, which is nestled in a secluded valley and surrounded by lunar-like rock formations and rugged mountains. Dating back to the 6th century, this once-thriving capital was deserted and hidden from the world for centuries, before being rediscovered in the 1800s. We access this incredible Rose City by walking through a narrow siq, where soaring rocks give way to reveal the impressive façade of the Kazneh, better known as the Treasury. From here, the valley widens to reveal all the archaeological treasures this hidden city has to offer, including an impressive Amphitheatre and a Roman colonnaded street.

After a guided tour, there’s free time to explore or visit Ad-Deir, otherwise known as the Monastery. Accessed via hundreds of rock-cut steps, Ad-Deir has a similar façade to the Treasury, but is larger and offers incredible views over the Petra Hills.

This evening we have an optional Petra By Night excursion (payable locally). Walking back through the siq after dark, we revisit the Treasury illuminated by thousands of candles.
Overnight: Petra  |  Breakfast

Day 5

Free time in Petra & 4x4 in Wadi Rum

Petra - Wadi Rum. This morning is either free time or you can revisit Petra on an optional hike. The route follows the Al Madras secret road to see the Treasury from above and visit the High Place of Sacrifice on the summit of the Attuf Ridge.

Next we drive to the striking Wadi Rum desert, with its incredible rock formations and rolling red dunes. Boarding 4x4 jeeps, we enjoy a thrilling ride across the sands to our desert camp where we spend the night. After a Jordanian dinner, we spend the evening swapping stories around the campfire and stargazing, before turning into our permanent tents for the night.
Overnight: Wadi Rum  |  Breakfast, Dinner

Day 6

Dead Sea & Mt Nebo

Wadi Rum - Dead Sea - Mt Nebo - Madaba. Those awake early enough enjoy an incredible sunrise over the desert before we all bid farewell to the Wadi Rum and journey north to the Dead Sea. At more than 400 metres below sea level, this hypersaline lake is the lowest body of water on Earth and is famous for its buoyancy. We spend a few hours bobbing around like corks in the therapeutic waters and rubbing the mineral-rich Dead Sea mud on our skin, before travelling on to Mount Nebo. It’s from this wonderful vantage point that Moses saw the Promised Land, and we soak up the views stretching as far as Bethlehem on the Judean hills.

Next stop is Madaba, where we spend the night. This ancient market town is famous for its Byzantine-era mosaics, the most famous of which is in St George’s Church and thought to be the oldest known map of the Holy Land.
Overnight: Madaba  |  Breakfast

Day 7

Day 8

Pyramids of Giza & Saqqara Step Pyramid

After breakfast we travel to the Giza Plateau to visit the iconic Sphinx and famed Pyramids of Giza. Built over 4,500 years ago, these ancient structures were designed to protect the mummies and treasures of pharaohs as they went to the afterlife. Known as Cheops, Chephren and Mycerinus, these legendary pyramids are the last of the ancient Seven Wonders of the World and a defining symbol of Egypt. Until 1889, when the Eiffel Tower was completed in Paris, Cheops was the tallest man-made structure in the world and, at 146 metres tall, is still highly impressive today. For a real Arabian experience, camels are available to hire and ride across the sands.

After marveling at the Pyramids of Giza, we travel on to Zhoser’s step pyramid in the necropolis of Saqqara. Designed by Imhotep, the pharaoh’s chief architect, in 2,700 BC, this was Egypt’s very first pyramid. We complete our day souvenir shopping at the bustling Khan el-Khalili bazaar.

Next we explore the beautiful Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, one of Egypt’s most striking ancient attractions due to its location beneath sheer rocky cliffs, and the Valley of the Kings, which is studded with ancient tombs including that of the famous King Tutankhamun.

This afternoon we journey south to Aswan, one of Egypt’s sunniest cities, where we spend the evening relaxing and strolling along the beautiful River Nile.
