Lisbon
A city that needs little introduction, Lisbon has got everything going for it. It’s the perfect setting to spend your day strolling around the picturesque streets. You could even grab a beer and relax in one of the city’s many panoramic viewing points such as the Viewpoint of our Lady of Mount. Be sure to check out the Barrio Alto district for the best of the capital’s buzzing bar and restaurant scene. Porto
Known for its port wine and beautiful bridges, Porto is the second largest city in Portugal and boy, does it impress. Strolling down the Cais da Ribeira boardwalk along the river, you feel as though you could be a star in a film set. This city is layered with rich history and has a vibrant food and wine scene. There are many sights to visit such as the famous Dom Luis I Bridge, the Rio Douro and the Clerigos Tower. Jump on one of the boats and cruise up the Douro River to learn about Porto’s rich history and see the city in all its glory.
Douro Valley
The world’s first officially designated wine region, the Douro Valley has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2001. The beautiful valley has the ideal climate and soil for planting grapes. There are many charming villages to visit here such as Favaois, Ucanha, Barcos and Salzedas. The Douro Museum is an interesting place to learn about the region and its wine. Marvel at the rugged International Douro Natural Park and gaze right across to Spain. Oh, and don’t forget to visit the vineyards and try that famous Port wine.
Fatima
Located 88 miles from Lisbon, the town of Fatima is home to the revered Catholic pilgrimage site of the Sanctuary of Fatima and steeped in history. Dedicated to the Virgin Mary, Fatima’s Sanctuary sees many visitors from all over the world each and every year. Large torchlight processions led through the historical town by Bishops and Cardinals captivate travellers. There is also several other historical sites worth visiting including the Basilica de Nossa Senhora do Rosário, the Casa De Lucia and the Capela Das Aparicoes.
Mateus
People travel to the civil parish of Mateus in Portugal to visit one thing - the palace. And it doesn’t disappoint. Mateus Palace is straight out of a fairytale. Built in the 18th century, its Baroque beauty still stands today. Rosé wine aficionados may have seen this location before as the palace is famously depicted on the Mateus Rose bottle. This place is truly a masterpiece and the garden an absolute fantasy. Another great bonus is the winery, the perfect setting to indulge in a few samples of delicious Portuguese wine.
