Day 1 - Arrival in Beijing

Upon arrival in Beijing, you’ll be met and transferred to your hotel for check-in.

Afterward, you have the rest of the day at your leisure. If you wish to explore, consider visiting Wangfujing Street, known for its bustling shops and street food vendors, providing a lively first impression of the city's vibrant atmosphere.

Day 2 - Exploring Beijing

Your exploration of Beijing begins at the iconic Tiananmen Square, the world’s largest public square, where you’ll take in its monumental history and surroundings. From here, stroll through the Forbidden City, an imperial palace filled with centuries of Chinese heritage.

For lunch, we enjoy an imperial meal, presented in the same way as food would have been served to the Emperor in ancient times.

Next, immerse yourself in the atmospheric Hutongs, Beijing's traditional narrow alleyways lined with ancient courtyard homes. Enjoy a food walk, tasting classic Beijing dishes and regional delicacies from across China.

The tour finishes at Houhai Lake, a picturesque area with lively bars, scenic tea houses, and a relaxed, charming vibe, perfect for winding down.

Day 3 - Great Wall & Peking Duck

Today, you will visit the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall, where you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of the rugged landscape. You can choose to hike along the ancient Wall or take the cable car to the top (additional fee - paid locally).

Afterward, stop by a local pearl shop to browse some exquisite treasures. In the evening, return to Beijing for a traditional Peking Duck dinner. This iconic dish, with its crispy skin and tender meat, is carved right in front of you and served with thin pancakes, spring onions, and hoisin sauce.

Day 4 - Beijing to Chengdu

Beijing - Chengdu. After breakfast, you’ll be transferred to the aiport for you included flight to Chengdu (approximately 2.5 - 3 hours), renowned for its spicy Sichuan cuisine and the home of giant pandas.

Once in Chengdu, you will visit Wangjiang Park, where you can stroll through a bamboo forest, a symbol of the city. Later, explore the Kuan Zhai Alley, a historic area filled with charming shops and eateries.

In the evening, you will venture to a local night market and sample Sichuan’s shaokao, which is a local barbecue featuring chili-rubbed grilled skewers of meat and veggies, a delicious street food experience. Most of them are hidden in small hole-in-the-wall restaurants or temporary evening markets.

Day 5 - Chengdu Culinary Delights

In the morning, you will visit the Chengdu Culinary Museum, where you’ll discover the region's rich food history and participate in a hands-on cooking lesson. Sichuan cuisine, known for its bold flavours and use of spices like garlic, chillies, and Sichuan peppercorns, will be showcased. Some of the more recognized Sichuan dishes include Sichuan Hot Pot, spicy deep-fried chicken, and Dandan noodles.

In the afternoon, visit Qingchengshan, a Taoist mountain retreat where you can enjoy serene landscapes and explore ancient temples. We spend another night in Chengdu.

Day 6 - Chengdu Giant Pandas & Hangzhou

Chengdu - Hangzhou. After breakfast, you'll start your day with a visit to the famous Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Centre, where you can see these iconic creatures in their natural habitat and learn about conservation efforts.

After lunch (not included), you’ll be transferred to the airport for your included flight to Hangzhou (approximately 2.5 - 3 hours), often referred to as the “Venice of the East.” Upon arrival, take a serene walk around the picturesque West Lake, enjoying the tranquil surroundings and the opportunity to join local residents in cultural activities such as fan dancing.

In the evening, indulge in Hangzhou’s famous cuisine. The city boasts a rich culinary heritage with iconic dishes such as West Lake Sour Fish, a tangy and refreshing fish delicacy; Dongpo Pork, a slow-braised pork belly dish known for its tenderness; Longjing Shrimp, featuring prawns infused with the aroma of Dragon Well green tea; and Steamed Rice and Pork wrapped in Lotus Leaves.

Day 7 - Discover Hangzhou

Your day begins with a visit to Lingyin Temple, an ancient and revered Buddhist sanctuary nestled among lush hills. Admire its grand halls, intricate carvings, and serene atmosphere as you explore one of China's largest and most historically significant temples.

Next, you will head to the Huqingyutang Chinese Herbal Medicine Museum, a cultural gem where you'll delve into the relationship between food, health, and traditional medicine. Engage with a Chinese herbal doctor to uncover the wisdom behind ancient remedies and their relevance in modern well-being.

Afterward, enjoy free time in Hangzhou. Stroll along West Lake, visit Leifeng Pagoda for panoramic views, or explore Hefang Street’s shops and tea houses. For tranquility, unwind in serene gardens like Guo’s Villa.

Day 8 - Tea in Hangzhou

After breakfast, head to Longjing village, renowned for its premium green tea. You will enjoy a tranquil hike through its verdant tea terraces. The rolling hills are alive with the activity of local farmers meticulously handpicking tea leaves, offering a glimpse into traditional tea cultivation.

Later, take some time to further discover Hangzhou at your leisure. Explore vibrant local markets to shop for unique souvenirs or relax at one of the charming bars near West Lake, where you can unwind with stunning views of the shimmering waters and surrounding scenery.

Day 9 - Hangzhou to Shanghai

Hangzhou - Shanghai. After breakfast, board the high-speed train to Shanghai, a journey of around 1 to 1.5 hours through picturesque countryside (unescorted). Upon arrival, visit the enchanting Yuyuan Garden, a masterpiece of classical Chinese landscaping with pavilions, ponds, and rockeries that exude tranquility and tradition. Whilst here, you can try Shanghai’s famous Xiaolongbao, delicate soup-filled dumplings, before enjoying an included lunch showcasing the city’s unique culinary style. Afterward, check into your hotel and spend the rest of the day at your leisure, exploring the city’s vibrant streets or relaxing.

Day 10 - Goodbye Shanghai

On your last day, enjoy some final free time to explore the vibrant city of Shanghai, perhaps visiting the Shanghai Museum or taking a walk along the Bund, which offers spectacular views of the skyline.

Check out is before 12:00 and there is an included transfer to the airport for your onward flight.
