Join this full day tour to Suzhou, a city west of Shanghai that is known for its great beauty, including lakes, rivers, ponds, and wonderous gardens nestled amidst scenic hills. Today, we will visit the UNESCO-listed Humble Administrator's Garden, Pinjiang Road, take a boat trip along the Grand Canal, and visit a silk factory enroute back to Shanghai.
Our day begins early as we depart from Shanghai and make our way to the picturesque Suzhou. Our first destination is the Humble Administrator's Garden, a gem from the Ming era. This splendid garden, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a testament to the beauty of Southern Chinese design.
Our next stop brings us to Pinjiang Road, a historic thoroughfare that stretches over 1,606 meters and traces its origins back to the Song Dynasty. This stone-paved road winds alongside a gently flowing river, adorned with charming bridges, houses with white walls and black roofs, and is renowned as an emblem of Suzhou's ancient city charm.
One of the day's highlights awaits as we embark on a boat journey along the Grand Canal, a manmade structure that stretches from Beijing to Hangzhou. This canal serves as a vital commercial artery, connecting numerous towns, including Hangzhou, Suzhou, and Wuzhen, along its course.
After lunch, we begin our journey back to Shanghai. On the way, we will stop at a silk factory to learn about the intricate art of silk production, for which China is renowned. You'll have the opportunity to see the silkworm rearing process, silk weaving, and learn about the history and significance of silk in Chinese culture. It's a chance to appreciate the craftsmanship behind this ancient textile.
