Trips and Tours to Port Elizabeth
About Port Elizabeth
Situated on South Africa's Southern coast, on the Eastern Cape, Port Elizabeth is one of the largest cities in the country and remains, to this day, an important seaport. It makes up part of the Nelson Mandela Bay and is formed, in part, by stretches of magnificent beach, some of which have gained blue-flag status and all of which can be enjoyed almost year round thanks to the area being blessed with around 300 days of sunshine per annum. Often nicknamed the Windy City or the Friendly City, Port Elizabeth is brimming with activity and history and boasts the impressive claim that everything is within 15 minutes from the airport.
Read MoreAs with much of South Africa, Port Elizabeth has a rich and turbulent history as it passed through the hands of various settlers and then struggled under Apartheid oppression. Route 67 is an art exhibition, which showcases 67 pieces of artwork, representing the 67 years of public service given by the late Nelson Mandela. In terms of historical significance, this gallery does a lot to express the events that happened during his life.
Naturally, there are plenty of opportunities to catch a glimpse of some of Africa's exciting wildlife whilst in Port Elizabeth. Day trips to nearby national parks such as the Shamwari Game Reserve and the Addo Elephant National Park are highly recommended and often provide the chance for travelers to witness not just the famous Big 5, but also the Big 7, which includes the Great White shark and the Southern Right whale. Back in the city, visitors can while away some hours at the Boardwalk casino and entertainment world and enjoy a meal whilst looking out over the water.
