The second cave, called the ‘Cave of the Great Kings’, is the largest of the 5 caves. The cave contains over 50 stunning Buddhas, statues of the gods Saman and Vishnu and statues of the kings Vattagamani Abhaya and Nissanka Malla. The cave is beautifully painted and is often considered a highlight of a trip to Sri Lanka.

Called the ‘Great New Monastery’ the third cave houses 50 Buddhas one of which is a beautiful reclining Buddha. It also has stunning Kandyan style wall and ceiling paintings
